Legal operations

Workflow records from law firms and legal operations teams.

Law firms and in-house legal teams track how matters move: intake, assignment, drafting, review, deadlines, and how each matter closed. Much of that is operational, and much of it sits close to privileged material.

Why it matters

What buyers learn from these records.

Legal work follows patterns: which matters need which steps, which clauses get negotiated, how long each stage takes. Playbooks and workflow records show those patterns without the substance of any client's matter.

Ownership and permissions

What we check first.

Before anything is licensed, we confirm the records are yours to license: that no software contract, franchise agreement, or privacy notice stands in the way. You do not need answers to these before the assessment.

A careful review comes first

Privileged and confidential client material needs the most careful review in this category. Attorney-client privilege, work product protection, and professional conduct rules may each limit what can leave the firm, even with names removed. We review this first, before any other step. Privileged material is not part of what qualifies, and other confidential client information may stay out of scope entirely.
  1. 1Do professional conduct rules where you practice limit how client files may be used?
  2. 2Do engagement letters or outside counsel guidelines include data or confidentiality terms?
  3. 3Do the terms of your practice management or document software restrict exports?
  4. 4Which of your records contain privileged communications or work product?

Quality factors

What makes records more useful.

  • Consistent matter types and task codes
  • Playbooks and templates that are current and in use
  • Workflow records that show each stage and how it ended

Investors are funding AI in legal operations.

These are funding rounds and an acquisition of AI companies working in legal operations. They show where investment in AI is going, not what any business's records are worth. None of them is a purchase of records.
